Did Bruce Lee take his training seriously?
"While Bruce was in Hong Kong filming in late 1971 or early 1972, he had his weight equipment and training gear shipped to him," says Ted Wong, who met Lee in 1967 and trained with him for more than six years. "He wanted to stay in shape. So we packed his bags, but we did not send any clothes because he said he could buy them cheap in Hong Kong. We just packed training equipment. When he saw all the bags filled with training equipment, he laughed and said, ‘Now I’m going to be able to do lots of training.’"
And train he did.
"Bruce considered training number one," says Wong. "He was constantly training. When he watched TV or went to the movies, he conditioned his knuckles. When he was driving, he worked the hand grips. If he walked to a bookstore and came to a hill, he always ran. He never wasted time."
Why was this man so obsessed with training? Several reasons.
First, according to Lee, training was important because you couldn’t perform up to your capabilities if you weren’t in shape, Wong recalls.
"Lee felt you had no business being in the martial arts if you weren’t in shape," says Wong. "If you weren’t in shape you couldn’t be 100 percent efficient."
Second, he had lofty goals.
"He wanted to be the best," says Wong. "He wanted to be the best martial artist."
And no one could dispute that he was.
Lee’s Thoughts on Strength
To get in excellent shape, Lee felt you needed strength, Wong notes.
"He considered strength training very important," Wong says. "He was constantly looking for ways to improve, including weight training and isometrics."
Although Lee felt strength was important, he did not believe bodybuilding was the answer, Wong says.
"He felt it was important to have definition, but he did not feel you had to overboard," Wong says. "He did not feel it was necessary to develop large muscles. On the other hand, strength and definition enhanced certain functions, such as kicking and punching."
And Lee’s conditioning entailed more than hand grips, sit-ups, weights, running and conditioning drills.
"A lot of the time he read books and analyzed different arts," Wong says. "He had a keen eye and an analytical mind. He did a lot of researching."
While you may never develop Lee’s skills, you can certainly train the way the "Little Dragon" did. Following are a few of the exercises Lee used to develop power.

Lee’s Strength Routine
Barbell Push
This exercise strengthens your arms, forearms, shoulders, biceps, lats, triceps, chest and abs.
"This exercise works almost your whole body," Wong says. "It’s really good; it’s effective. But it is also very difficult. Although Bruce lifted a lot of weight, most people can’t. I remember trying to lift what he used, and I couldn’t even hold it."
To begin, stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder width. Squat, grab the barbell with an underhand grip and stand up. Keeping your elbows by your side, raise the weight straight out, hold for a second, return and repeat.
Do three sets of 8 to 12 repetitions. When you’re done, do three sets of 8 to 12 reps with an overhand grip.
Punching With a Dumbbell
This exercise improves your shoulder endurance, which is vital for sparring.
"Bruce did this drill a lot." Wong says.
Hold a five-pound dumbbell in each hand, assume a fighting stance and alternate throwing punches with each hand.
"Do these moderately fast," Wong says.
To prevent an injury, however, don’t throw your punches too fast. Do two to three sets, 10 to 15 reps per set.
One-Hand Dumbbell Drill
This drill strengthens your wrist, which means your punches will be stronger. Lee used this exercise to enhance his one-inch punch, Wong notes.
"When your wrist is strong, you get more power," he says. "And it’s good when you’re in close range because there isn’t much room for your wrist to travel. This is a good drill for the one-inch punch."
To begin, stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart, and hold a five-pound dumbbell in your right hand. Keeping your arm to your side and using only your wrist, raise the dumbbell as high as you can and lower it as far as you can.
Do two sets of 25 reps. When you’re done, do two sets of 25 reps, moving your wrist from side to side as far as you can.
Isometrics
"This is isometric training for power punching," Wong says. "It was one of Lee’s favorite drills because it built speed and punching power at different ranges."
To do this, you can use a jump rope, a karate belt or a strand of rope.
To begin, assume a fighting stance and hold the rope in both hands. Place your left hand behind your back, wrap the other end around your shoulder and throw a short-range punch. Hold it for five seconds, extend your punch to ¾ distance, hold it for five seconds, extend it to full range and hold.
For each arm, do five sets of five reps.
Board Isometrics
This drill is for leg strength and mobility.
"This exercise really puts pressure on your knees," he says. "It’s intense."
To do this drill, you’ll need a four-foot long board with a shoulder harness strapped in the middle.
To begin, assume a fighting stance on the board and place the harness around your neck. Exerting a constant upward pressure, lean forward and then lean back.
"This drill enables you to develop explosive power and to close the gap [more efficiently]," He says.
Do three sets of one minute. As you improve, increase your time.
Hand Isometric Drills
This drill strengthens your forearms, which is great for trapping and punching.
You will need the board for this exercise also. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, wrap the straps around your forearms and exert pressure upward.
Do three sets of one minute. Don’t rest more than one minute between sets.
Bull Worker for Punching
This drill also strengthens your punching power.
To do this drill, you’ll need a Bull Worker, which you may be able to find at a sporting goods store.
Assume a fighting stance, hold the bow straps in each hand, and throw as many punches as you can, as fast as you can.
"Do these real fast, and do as many as you can," Wong says.
Do two to three sets. You can throw backfists or straight punches. This device also enables you to adjust the tension.
Bull Worker for Trapping
Again, you will also need the Bull Worker for this drill, which strengthens your forearms for trapping, grabbing and hitting.
Assume a fighting stance, place one end of the Bull Worker against your abs, and hold the other end at about head-height. As quickly as possible, pull the top part toward your abs, return and repeat.

What Made Bruce Great?
So what made Bruce Lee as great as he was?
Strength training? Genetics? Intensity?
"I think there are a lot of factors, but I think it was his drive," Wong says. "For example, he always told me you had to put 100 % effort into everything you did. He said, ‘When you throw a punch, put everything into it. Don’t just go through the motions.’ To this day I remember that, and it’s very important to me."

They are runnig out of time they have to release launch/software/hardware details soon i think games will be playable too. Lets just hope it's not like CES remember everyone thought it would be the place where all the detial would be release instead we basically got nothing.

This thread will get lock just like the other one, because the date you have is just pure speculation. Even tho PS Gamer said the conf. is during 12th - 18th, no official word has been released from Sony so this is still not offial(not to say PS Gamer doesn't know what he is talking about).

I don't think we'll be seeing much.
After all the earlier speculation about playable games at TGS, big announcements at CES and all the other bull I'm beginning to think rumours about PS3 not even being closed to finish just might be true.
Let's hope I'm wrong and we'll hear everything we need to hear at the PlayStation meeting on the 5th of February.

what is interesting is the fact that sony did the same thing with the ps2, people
were going to buy the dreamcast and thought that sony flopped and were behind.
but at the festival they showed the ps2 final with the box and menu (look at first
post), they had playable games, products and everything all at once!
I'm surprised microosoft has not caught up with sony's strategy which is the same as
with the ps2

Deco advertiu hoje, em conferência de imprensa em Barcelona, «que o Benfica é mais perigoso no contra-ataque quando joga fora de casa». O «internacional» luso-brasileiro considera o Benfica a equipa da Europa que melhor defende.

A dois dias do jogo, em que tudo se encontra em aberto face ao 0-0 de Lisboa, os adeptos do «Barça» lamentam a falta de golos nos últimos três encontros tendo logrado apontar apenas um e de grande penalidade, no sábado contra o Real Madrid (1-1).
«Temos que marcar golos, se quisermos seguir em frente, as oportunidades têm sido criadas e isso é motivo para não nos preocuparmos em demasia», afirmou o luso-brasileiro que insistiu junto dos jornalistas espanhóis para a necessidade do Barcelona «saber respeitar o Benfica».
Deco fala também na «falta de sorte no jogo da Luz» e lembra que «não se pode falhar duas vezes consecutivas».
O internacional por Portugal salienta a necessidade da equipa do Barcelona «jogar com paciência diante dos portugueses», considerando ser o Benfica a equipa que melhor defende de todas aquelas que ainda se mantêm na Liga dos Campeões.
Sobre a ausência forçada de Nuno Gomes, Deco alerta para a entrada de «jogadores mais rápidos, caso por exemplo do italiano Miccoli, que pode fazer a diferença se não houver atenção da defesa do Barça».
«Em suma, não podemos errar diante de uma equipa que para chegar a esta fase já deixou para trás fortes adversários», rematou Deco.

UPDATE: o inter perdeu 1-0 com o villareal.. riquelme com um centro milimétrico e o arruabarrena cabeceou para o fundo das malhas da baliza defendida pelo guardião internacional pela selecção italiana, francesco toldo.. este grande jogas era para vir para o benfica, era o melhor que já podia ter acontecido aos lusitanos mas como a economia deste pais esta de rastos, não foi possivel viabilizar a melhor transferencia dos ultimos 6 anos me atrevo a retorquir.

Rijkaard assume favoritismo
O técnico do Barcelona não tem problemas em assumir que a sua equipa é favorita e que espera frente ao Benfica que os seus jogadares encontrem o caminho para o golo, algo que não têm conseguido fazer nos últimos jogos.

Depois de na última noite ter batido o Gil Vicente (3-0), o FC Porto iniciou esta manhã o trabalho específico tendo em vista o jogo do próximo sábado em Alvalade. Lucho e Marek Cech fizeram treino condicionado mas devem mesmo actuar no denominado «jogo do título».
O defesa eslovaco, obrigado ontem à noite a deixar o relvado a 20 minutos do termo da partida devido a uma mialgia na coxa direita, recebeu tratamento e vai efectuar esta tarde exames complementares acreditando-se no entanto no Olival que o lateral-esquerdo possa recuperar ao longo da semana.

Two goals in the last five minutes from Filippo Inzaghi and Andriy Shevchenko took AC Milan into the UEFA Champions League semi-finals at the expense of Olympique Lyonnais, who had seemed set to progress to the last four for the first time on away goals.
Late drama
Inzaghi nodded last season's runners-up in front midway through the first half, but the visitors hit back almost immediately through Mahamadou Diarra and held firm in the face of mounting pressure during a tense second half. With two minutes remaining, however, Inzaghi was quickest to react after a goalmouth scramble, and Shevchenko salted Lyon wounds deep in added time as the French champions bowed out in the last eight for the third year running.
Milan movement
Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti had started with Inzaghi and Jaap Stam, and his side enjoyed the better of the early exchanges with Clarence Seedorf and Andrea Pirlo seeking out the movement of Inzaghi and Shevchenko. Inzaghi set his sights on ten minutes, dragging Kakha Kaladze's long ball wide, and went close again five minutes later when he flicked Serginho's centre centimetres past the near post. Lyon, whose coach Gérard Houllier had brought Fred and Sidney Govou into a three-pronged attack, were creating very few chances but then the hosts proceeded to make three defensive errors in as many minutes.
Inzaghi opener
First Dida miscued Alessandro Nesta's back-pass but Sylvain Wiltord was slow to control before shooting over. Then Fred reached a ball ahead of the Milan keeper and slipped it back to Florent Malouda who also miskicked. Juninho Pernambucano, back from suspension, was given a free-kick chance from distance, but Dida punched clear. After 25 minutes, though, just as Lyon were growing in confidence, Milan struck as Fred lost possession which allowed Shevchenko to feed Seedorf down the left and the Dutchman's cross was glanced magnificently into the far corner by Inzaghi.
Diarra reaction
Lyon quickly regrouped, and were level six minutes later. Juninho took another set-piece but this time caught the Rossoneri off guard by crossing to Fred, whose header was blocked accidentally by Cris. Diarra was first to react, nodding in to silence the crowd. Milan tried to respond, Seedorf and Inzaghi both threatening, but it was the away team who came closest to scoring again before the break. Juninho forced Dida to tip his cross-shot over the bar and then found Fred unmarked from the corner, with the latter's header grazing the post.
Seedorf snapshot
Milan gave notice of their second-half intent by troubling Lyon keeper Grégory Coupet within a minute of the restart, Nesta nodding narrowly over. Increasingly Milan sought to exploit the inexperience of Lyon right-back François Clerc, Kaká releasing Serginho only for the Brazilian to opt to shoot with Inzaghi unmarked. The game became stretched and Lyon, aware that another goal would leave the Italian side needing to score twice, went for it themselves. Juninho combined with Govou down the right but Nesta blocked the Frenchman's cutback.
Dramatic finale
Urged on by a noisy home support, Milan pressed forward, Serginho dancing through a wave of players only for his delivery to evade all his team-mates, before Wiltord brilliantly cleared Kaladze's goalbound effort off his line. Yet just when it appeared that Milan's luck was out, Inzaghi scrambled in after Coupet had touched Shevchenko's shot on to both posts to finally end Lyon's resistance. The Ukrainian then rounded the Lyon custodian to add a flattering third and set up a semi-final with either FC Barcelona or SL Benfica.
Villarreal CF extended their UEFA Champions League fairy tale with a 1-0 win against FC Internazionale Milano to reach the semi-finals on away goals in their first season in the tournament.
Barnstorming display
Full-back Rodolfo Arruabarrena headed the crucial second-half goal that was the culmination of a barnstorming display, notably from Juan Román Riquelme, Diego Forlán and Alessio Tacchinardi, during which the Italian team came under constant pressure. Now Villarreal will meet either Arsenal FC or Juventus for a place in the final.
Confident approach
The early part of the match had been a template of the performance that Villarreal needed and that coach Manuel Pellegrini had demanded. They were confident, unhurried and purposeful in possession, and the Inter players who had been ordered by Roberto Mancini to attack, were instead forced to hustle and defend.
Defensive blow
The loss of Gonzalo Rodríguez, Villarreal's exceptional young centre-half, to an ankle problem had suggested the home side might relax their steely defensive style. In the event, Inter rarely made it out of their own half with any real purpose in the first 45 minutes and Villarreal's creative players, Juan Pablo Sorín, Forlán and Riquelme, saw plenty of the ball.
Command performance
In fact, within the first half-hour, Villarrreal had created three presentable chances. Before the third minute had passed it took an absolutely exceptional penalty-box block from Marco Materazzi to prevent Riquelme volleying in the opening goal. With the hosts' 4-3-1-2 formation protecting their defence, Tacchinardi was the outstanding midfield presence, allowing Riquelme his most commanding 45 minutes in the UEFA Champions League this season.
Missed chances
Villarreal's second opportunity came as Sorín raced on to a chance inside the area from which he might well have scored had he not tumbled too easily under the challenge of Materazzi in the 28th minute. Then, almost immediately, Arruabarrena had a clear header at the back post which he delivered into the chest and arms of Francesco Toldo.
Rearguard action
To Inter's credit, their defence never once descended into either cynical blocking or foul play and their work rate and concentration were of the highest order. Yet their own dangerous players, particularly Adriano and Alvaro Recoba, were starved of possession as their team-mates fought to stave off wave after wave of Villarreal attacks.
Tacchinardi effort
The break arrived with Tacchinardi spurning one more invitation to put Villarreal ahead on aggregate when his 44th-minute header went over the bar when he had time and space to at least test Toldo.
Growing pressure
If anything, Villarreal doubled their efforts and their efficacy in the second half. Marcos Senna crashed a drive straight at Toldo, and the keeper then had to save outstandingly well from José María Romero's chip to the top right-hand corner of his goal. Between those moments Riquelme drew a block from the Inter custodian, and the sense that a goal was inevitable was proved correct with just over 30 minutes remaining.
Arruabarrena goal
Riquelme, the game's star performer, surged forward and was fouled by Luís Figo. From the free-kick the Argentinian lofted the ball so as to meet Arruabarrena's left-to-right run across the box, and the man who had scored in the last round to eliminate Rangers FC headed home to move Villarreal towards the semi-finals.
Forlán denied
Only minutes later, a wonderful one-two between Forlán and José Mari allowed the ESM Golden Shoe holder to bring out Toldo's best stop of the night, the latter diving to his left to turn the shot around the post. That might have kept the scores down, but Villarreal were not to be denied on a magic night at El Madrigal.

O Benfica joga esta quarta-feira a passagem às meias-finais da Liga dos Campeões em casa do Barcelona. Depois do 0-0 da Luz, o Camp Nou vai acolher esta noite, às 19h45 (mais uma hora em Espanha), o jogo mais importante da época para as duas equipas. Até agora.
Serão mais de 5 mil benfiquistas a apoiar a equipa portuguesa num estádio que faz parte da história do futebol europeu e que vai estar cheio, contando o Barça com o apoio de 93 mil adeptos. Pela manhã, o ambiente em Camp Nou ainda é calmo, mas começa a fervilhar num sentido inevitável.
As primeiras barreiras começam a ser montadas, a organização do jogo, os patrocinadores, vão preparando as imediações. Mas ainda, e ao mesmo tempo, o planeta Barça continua a girar.
Do lado de fora do Camp Nou, as tendas dos feirantes já ganharam posições. No complexo do Barcelona, a loja do clube vai ganhando um ritmo de afluência crescente. Nas bilheteiras do Palau Blaugrana ainda se pode comprar um bilhete para ver o jogo de andebol entre os catalães e o Portland San Antonio ¿ Puyol apelou aos adeptos que fossem apoiar o Barcelona para um jogo muito importante que será uma hora e 15 minutos antes; o Barça é assim ¿; e, claro bilhetes para o museu do clube.
Até á hora do almoço, o museu ainda pode ser visitado e só o «tour» ao campo está vedado, como acontece em dias de jogo. Por isso, os habituais turistas continuam a fazer o seu percurso por uma das atracções da cidade. Até que a hora do jogo vá ficando cada vez mais perto e quem está apenas de visita comece a perder em número para quem vai ao futebol.
Levantar às 3 e meia da manhã para ver o Benfica
Alguns aparecem desde cedo. E vêem-se as primeiras camisolas e bandeiras do Benfica. Manuel Simões é um português que vive no Luxemburgo e tinha este dia previsto desde o sorteio dos quartos-de-final. «Disse logo antes: Se for em Camp Nou, vamos lá!», contando a conversa com Rui Abreu que, ali ao lado, na companhia do filho Jorge, confirmou de pronto. O grupo fica completo com Rui Coelho e o filho Ryan.
Os cinco portugueses compraram os bilhetes na casa do Benfica no Luxemburgo («mais caros do que as viagens», frisou Manuel Simões) e lá partiram rumo a Barcelona. A alvorada foi às 3h30 e cinco horas depois estavam na Catalunha, com uma viagem até Frankurt pelo meio, onde apanharam o voo. Em Espanha, quartel-general em Girona e 80 quilómetros depois, finalmente, Barcelona.
«Espero o resultado de sábado [1-1 entre o Barcelona e o Real Madrid]», confessa Manuel Simões confiante nas exibições de Luisão e Petit. «O Barcelona há três jogos que não ganha»; «Tudo o que for com golos é bom para o Benfica»; vão dizendo estes especialistas à vez com a confiança de quem esteve no jogo da Luz com o Manchester ou em Liverpool.
Nas bilheteiras do Camp Nou, a voz é dada aos espanhóis. Os «assentos livres» são os bilhetes que são postos à venda para sócios e que são disponibilizados por quem tem lugar de temporada e não vai ao jogo. O Barcelona colocou à venda o número limitado que ainda existia às 11h00 desta quarta-feira e os adeptos «culés» iam esperando nas longas filas. E à espera também de não terem de ficar dependentes da outra opção para verem o Barcelona. Com «preços de todos os tipos; depende do lugar que se quer», variando entre os 80 e os 200 euros, segundo nos disseram...

Após o empate (0-0) no Estádio da Luz, o Benfica perdeu (2-0) com o Barcelona em Camp Nou e disse adeus à Liga dos Campeões. Depois de afastar o Liverpool e o Manchester United, chegou ao fim o sonho dos benfiquistas

O Barcelona beneficiou de uma grande penalidade logo aos três minutos (mão de Petit), mas Moretto defendeu o remate de Ronaldinho. A pressão dos catalães intensificou-se e o mesmo Ronaldinho, aos 18 minutos, chegou ao golo da vantagem. Beto perde a bola a meio campo, Eto´o ultrapassa Anderson na direita, cruza para a área e surge Ronaldinho, sem marcação, a bater Moretto, que desta vez nada pôde fazer. O Barcelona tomou conta do jogo até final da primeira parte, com o Benfica remetido a meras funções defensivas, sem hipótese de gizar jogadas de contra-ataque.
O Benfica acordou na segunda parte. Koeman mexeu na equipa e conseguiu equilibrar o jogo. Simão, aos 60 m, falhou a melhor oportunidade dos encarnados, mas rematou para fora, com o guarda-redes Valdès fora da baliza. O Barça geria a vantagem, mas não muito tranquilo, porque um golo do Benfica faria pender a eliminatória para o lado dos encarnados. Até que, ao cair do pano (88 m), Eto´o terminou com as esperanças dos benfiquistas, após perda de bola de Petit.
