Family of 9 refugees allegedly gang-raped teacher for two hours
A family of refugees from Iraq are on trial for the alleged gang-rape of a 28-year-old teacher in Vienna.
Prosecutors have charged the men with “abuse of a defenceless person and rape in a very humiliating and agonising way for the victim”. The rape is said to have occurred on New Years Eve 2015.
According to The Daily Mail, a court heard how a woman identified as Sabine K arrived in Vienna on December 28 2015 to spend the New Year with a female friend in the city. During celebrations on New Years, they were seen drinking in a bar-restaurant called Cactus. Shortly before 3AM, Sabine's friend noticed she was missing and another patron told her the men she had been talking to had 'taken her away'.
Judge Petra Poschalko heard how the woman was taken to an apartment in Vienna’s Rustenschacher Allee, where five other men were waiting. Sabine said she found herself naked on a double bed being assaulted by the men one after the other.
During the attack she yelled at her attackers in German saying, “No, I don’t want this” and “Listen to me, just a little bit” in English.
The attacks lasted for hours and the victim needed in-patient treatment at a trauma clinic. She is now is under psychiatric care for post traumatic stress disorder. Because of another breakdown during the weekend she couldn't face her alleged attackers in court.
One man, Mohamed Al-A admitted his role in the rapes. He said that while his Islamic faith forbids him from drinking, he made an exception on New Years Eve and drank vodka. He admitted to getting very drunk and even said “this act is a crime in Iraq.”
He was with co-defendants Nazar Al-J., Mohammed Al-T. and Alaa Al-J who allegedly took Sabine back to the apartment.
The other defendants, Hader Al-A., Mustafa Al-J., Nael Al-J., Marwan Al-J. und Sabah Al-J were already in the apartment waiting.
Medical experts say she was raped multiple times and was sodomized. DNA of six of the men was found on her body.
Her attackers conversed only in Arabic and Alaa Al-J. was said to be the ringleader. After the attacks stopped, Mohammed Al-. escorted her to a toilet where he took a selfie with her on his phone. Sabine was later taken to a nearby train stop.
Court resumes again on Thursday. The defendants face up to 15 years each in jail if convicted. [daqui]
